People Blogs: Captain Goele Speaks!

Who are the Scaptanen? That was a long time ago... it must have been somewhere in the 500s, the Scaptanen lived... Just kidding! The Scaptanen, that's our team! The Scapta family. Each one of them has a unique story with hidden (and not so hidden) talents. Wonderful people who share a passion. Our Scapta family is growing! Would you like to get to know them?

Hi, meet:

Seasoned Project Manager at Scapta 🗒️

First things first! How long have you been working at Scapta? You're a real veteran, aren't you?

11 years now, since Valentine's Day 2011, easy to remember haha! I started at the former It-Solutions and was then taken over to the current Scapta. No regrets!

It's been a long time, but how were your first days?

For my adventure at Scapta, I taught for a year. After my studies, I chose to pursue a doctorate where I assisted a professor. It seemed like a great idea to then enter education myself! But in hindsight, it turned out to be completely not my thing. After a year of teaching at the university college, I quickly looked for a new challenge.

Then Scapta came into my life. A complete turnaround, I had never worked with ERP packages, business flows, invoicing processes, etc. It was completely new to me. Very exciting!

Did you hear that out of the blue?

Indeed! I took an accounting course and got into it that way, but it seemed like a fun challenge!

When someone new starts at Scapta now, you get a lot of training in the first few days, time to read up, and shadow colleagues. Back in the day, when I started, it was a bit different. (laughs) On day 1, I immediately carpooled with a colleague to Proximus Spear IT. My first day of work, right at my first client. Talk about a challenge...

Wow, you were thrown to the wolves right away!

Yes, that's how it was back then. Very exciting, but also particularly educational! The starters now are in a privileged position. They get a buddy by their side to teach them the ropes. They can work alongside the experts, and that is super valuable. Scapta has grown enormously in that regard.

Were you also able to fall back on the scaptani initially after that exciting start?

Yes, definitely! From day one, I was well taken care of and could count on them. That's really Scapta's specialty!

What makes your job so challenging? What makes you smile every morning?

It might sound cliché, but at Scapta, every day is truly different. Our cases and clients are so diverse! That's what makes it exciting every single time. Plus, we learn new things every day. I often say, “Ah, there we go! I've learned something new again.” How wonderful is that? I find that absolutely fantastic!

When you look back at your journey, what stands out to you? What do you look back on with a good feeling?

Difficult question! There isn't one specific thing. I am always super proud when a case goes live. Big or small. That's a fantastic feeling every time. If the client is satisfied at the end, we are too.

Every time you bring something to a successful conclusion with your team, it's so satisfying!

“I so often say: “Ah, there you go! I've learned something new again.” How wonderful is that? I think that's really fantastic!

What do you think makes Scapta so different from other employers?

That's easy, the family feeling! Everyone is so close and very approachable. The management, Peter, Alex, and Frank, are also easy to talk to. There is a pleasant atmosphere, and that's just how it is, nice to work every day!

And how about your work-life balance? Do you notice much difference between pre-corona times and corona times?

There's definitely a difference pre and post-corona. Working from home wasn't really an option before. We just worked at the office every day. (Which I sometimes found a bit of a shame back then.)

I think the situation is perfect now: 3 days in the office and 2 days at home. An ideal balance for me! We are also almost always online, so I never feel disconnected, even if I'm in a different location. We're always connected by phone or chat, which makes it very practical too!

Last but not least, is there a quote or sentence that fits Scapta?

Helpfulness! That's really our hidden strength.

Nice to get to know you even better, Goele! ????
