ABOUT THE EDUCATION
Power BI is Microsoft’s self-service reporting platform and is increasingly becoming the standard for setting KPIs and reporting. In this training course, you’ll learn how to efficiently build a management report that is automated, easy to update, and visually appealing.
Your reports are available online on any device and easy to share with colleagues. This way, you invest more time in analyzing your figures and less time in creating your report. A practical training course with plenty of exercises and a jointly developed case study.
WHAT YOU CAN DO AFTER THE TRAINING
- Positioning Power BI within Microsoft 365 and compared to Power Query and Power Pivot in Excel
- Connecting setting up data connections and importing data from Excel
- Transforming Purge and restructure data in Power Query, with merge, append, and an introduction to M
- Modelling a model with facts and dimension tables, relationships, cardinality, and filter direction
- Calculating calculated columns and measures in DAX, including calendar calculations
- Visualizing Build report pages with the right visuals, slicers, and filters
- Publish Go to the Power BI Service and work with workspaces
- Share Share reports securely, with insight into licenses and basic RLS
FOR WHO
Anyone who reports broadly on KPIs and key figures from various systems: controllers, analysts, and profiles from finance, sales, and management. No prior knowledge of Power BI is required.
CONDITIONS OF PERMISSION
- Own Windows laptop with the latest Power BI Desktop
- Solid basic knowledge of Excel
- A Microsoft 365 account with Power BI access is a plus for the publishing component

DAY 1 Intro and data preparation

- Data connections and importing from Excel
- Split columns, merge them, restructure them
- Steps and ETL methodology, merge & append
- Introduction to the Power Query M-language
DAY 2 Data model & DAX
- Stermodel: fact sheets and dimension tables
- Relations: cardinality and filter direction
- Calculated columns versus measures, measures table
- Basic DAX and calendar calculations
PART 3 Case study & publication
- Financial P&L of Sales Dashboard, from ETL to report
- Visuals, report pages, slicers and filters
- Publishing, workspaces, licenses (Pro/PPU) and RLS
